Power cut-off

This is our first time renting our properties--and boy, have we learned the hard way. I have read the NC guidelines that power cannot be disconnected during the eviction process--however, we do have a signed contract that the tenant agrees to have the power transferred to their name within 30 days. The tenants took over 10/30 and the power has not been transferred. They are late on Dec. & Jan rent. Do we legally have to keep power on?

Hi Gerri,
I suggest you notify the tenants that the power is being turned off as of a certain date so the account can be put in their name as they agreed in the lease.
