Heaters and coolers

Our units have swamp coolers. In order to use the heater the cooler has to be shut down. It is a one or the other system. We had a new tenant move in on the 1st. We switched from cooling to heating for her the day before she moved in. She just asked if we could hook the cooler back up for a bit. It is 70s during the day and 40s at night right now. We paid $20 to have the coolers winterized. Any advice on what to tell her? Should we switch it back or leave it as is?

70 degrees does not warrent a cooler. Tell her with this type of unit, it can't go back and forth. It's in heat mode now and will not be switched to cool until X date. Otherwise, she will be at you daily to switch it back and forth during this fluctuating temperature.

You could spend a couple hundred on some window units, I'm sure they're on sale right now!

Let common sense rule here. Tell her the winterizing has already been done. Let her know she can open a window, and put in a few window fans. The weather is only going to get colder from now on. Maybe it was just a spell of Indian Summer. Don't let her become too demanding.....and don't YOU become too accommodating. You are setting yourself up to have a tenant with a constant list of complaints. Just tell her the heating/cooling switchover is done at the same time as yours, and at YOUR discretion. If you can live under those conditions without hardship, so can she.
