Exactly how did you "fail"?

Sounds like a group who make their living off of suing people. If it were me, I'd tell them to go pound sand.

Your argument that it is "discrimination against the small business owner" will not hold water, though.

I failed because I should NOT have said anything about a pet deposit. It is illegal to charge those kind of fees with a service animal. I was not sure though on the pet deposit at the time. I AM SURE NOW!

I know better than to try to go after them for discrimination against a small business owner. I just do not understand how they decide on a settlement amount. I do not think it is fair that they just throw out a random settlement amount, (YPOTHETICAL OF COURSE)such as $5,000 then work down to $2,000.
I thought the settlement amount was HIGH considering it was a first offense.

They are a legitimate agency INTERMOUNTAIN FAIR HOUSING COUNCIL.

I think it should be more of fine situation, first offense a set amount, and then if it continues, it is a blantant disregard for the service animal regulations. after the first offense, I can see a higher fine issued.

You kind of covered yourself by saying "may" be a pet deposit.

Tell them to blow it out their ear.
