Amen to that...there is a practice that needs to change. Go to Home Depot, they get paid by the hour to help you.

I DO plan on getting the repairs done from the lowest bidder.

If you were having open heart surgery would you go to the cheapest heart surgeon?? Home Depot will give you a bid on repairs etc.

Wow, you went from offering advice on home repairs (or giving an obscure off base life lesson, how ever you choose to view it) to a fellow landlord to referencing heart surgery as an equivalent! That doesn't even begin to compare. This is hardly life or death. Give the guy/girl a break here people...they're worried about damage to their property, simply asked if you knew any good contractors so they could get them fixed; then the work goes to the lowest bidder. Dosen't sound too wild and crazy to me. If all you want to do is badger them over asking for help and admitting to giving the labor to the lowest bidder (since they are obviously not rich like you), I say get a life.

Home Depot is fine if you need to install a new ______ (fill in the blank.) But they don't do repairs for the average job. They won't come in and replace the lockset on the bedroom door that's broken, fix the plumbing under the sink, etc. You need a contractor to do these things. Call a local LL association or REIA and ask who they refer people to.

Exactley! Be your own contractor and get bids...the Depot can tell you how to install the locks etc. and have the how~to videos..

Unfortunately, not all people are mechanically inclined and able to do repairs. Everyone should be able to handle locks since they take only 4 screws, but other items may be too complex for the owner. If they are, contact a LL association to get a referral to a good contractor.
