Why didn't you accept the payment in certifid funds like a money order or certified check. I always require that for first month's rent payment and security deposit.

The problem here is an applicant who does not have the money to rent. It is not the form of payment.

Most LLs require certified funds for move-in for just this reason. If they don't have the money then they can't get the certified payment and you don't get a bounced check fee!
