Question on running credit check by Maloney_315 (NY) on February 8, 2010 @15:54
Hello,

My father rents a house and we are in the process of looking for news tenants. Trying to be more selective of the prospects this time out.

In running a credit/background check, what do you guys charge as a average?

Any tips would be helpful. I am very glad to have found this site.

Thanks,
Pat

I charge $20 per adult applicant -- that covers the $15 for credit check and the rest goes toward my time doing the civil & criminal background checks.

Charge whatever you can get away with and still attract enough prospects to find a good renter. In my neighborhood, that means I can't charge anything, despite using a background check and credit check that costs me $19.95. In my neighborhood, only large apartment complexes can get away with charging application fees, very few, if any, small property owners, charge for the application at all.
