SD Reconciliation For Smoke Smell? Texas by Anonymous on March 14, 2010 @18:48
My tenants just vacated and left the house smelling like some type of carpet(?) deodorant and a faint smell of cigarrette smoke. There are cigarette butts in the front yard. They were cited months ago for having a bucket full of butts on the front drive. My assumption is that while no one actually smoked in the house, there were smokers in the house with second hand smoke & it left a barely detectable smell. I used the LPA lease that states no smoking in the rental. How do other landlords charge the SD for, and get rid of faint smoke smell?

Document the smell perhaps with a neighbor or get an affidavit to document the smoke.

Cigarette smoke may be the most difficult smells next to pet urine to eliminate. It permeates the window treatments and carpeting. I can guarantee there is nothing a consumer can get that works.

I'd get a professional cleaner that provides a warranty and deduct the whole cost from the SD. National companies include Servpro.

Good luck.

Rent an ozone generator. It's what the car dealers and cruise lines use. After you scrub the walls and ceiling.

Good Grief! Just open the windows and spray some room deodorant. A home that smells like someone lived in it is not something you should get into their pocket for. Especially if it smells like some kind of carpet. Is carpet something malodorous?
