Simple answer. You are both on the lease and everything is good until that lease ends. Regardless of anything outside of blatent discrimination, no landlord "has" to renew anyone's lease. If they are no longer comfortable with the people in the unit, they can terminate the tenancy at the end of the lease regardless of how long you've been there or regardless of whether or not you can find another place that cheap. It might be in his best interest to not renew and find someone who will pay more per month if it is really that cheap and he is below market. Considering the problems, I would not renew either.

I had in mind to look for another place (single family house)towards end of lease anyways, as I am tired of not being able to do laundry here on the premises. There are washer/dryer hookups so I bought a washer & dryer, only used the washer 3 times and everyone here was told that due to "enviromental issues" we can't wash our laundry here, but we can dry it here. So now I have to drive a total of 10 miles round trip to do laundry, which costs extra gas & extra money for laundromat. Also, there's no dishwasher which I, myself, can't stand. The rent here isn't exactly "cheap"-it is $800 per month, LL only pays for cold water. I hope that towards end of lease I can find a small single family house nearby-I can either stay in my current town, or 2 other nearby towns so my daughter can stay in school as she will be in high school in Fall. I think apartment living stinks, and wanted to move to a single family house but we were pressed for time and the single family houses that were for rent when we were looking were $1,000 or more a month-out of our price range. I am hoping that by mid/late Novemeber we will be able to afford a little higher rent for a house as we never had any issues in a single-family house, ever and that is what I want anyways. I see you are from New York-my fiance was born & raised in the Bronx.
