Craigslist posts not showing up by Anonymous on November 29, 2010 @13:34

I've tried posting several ads to Craigslist. I get the approval e-mail to publish them, however the ads do not show up in the search results. I'm able to access the ad via the link, but the ad does not display when I search on Craigslist. I've tried deleting/reposting and using an alternate e-mail address and I still have the problem. Has anyone experienced this? Most recent posting is located at http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/apa/2085121096.html, but not showing up in search results.

I have the same thing happening to me! Posted it this morning, but it is not on the site...were you using that html code for the prescreening questions? I did. Maybe that has something to do with it not showing up...

I have had that problem too.

A few tips. Just straight text in the title line. No ',' '/', '&', etc.

You can go to the help forum and maybe see if someone can find something too.

Put a straight text ad out there to get you by.

It's called "ghosting" and it's craig'slist's dirty little secret; it's how they combat what they think is spam. They trick you into thinking your ad is posted, you can see it, but it is nowhere to be found on the site.

You might have posted too many ads and got flagged for abusing the system somehow. The only way for you to post again would be to use a different email address, your old account will never work again. It has been flagged, and everything you try to post will be ghosted from now on.

The above person described it very well. You can see your ad but it does not index on the main page for others to see.

In addition to your e-mail, they will block your IP address.

In addition they have a new fun way to screw legitimate users. It's called "Geo Filtering." This takes your IP address location into account and will block you from posting out of your area. Especially if you have been blocked for other reasons.

I have multiple properties in multiple states and cities. It is becomming very difficult for me to post rental ads.

Also - DO NOT USE POST-ITS! I love them but CL considers the site as spam - that's what started my problems.

The good thing is this thread is great and I am saving it.

I am considering bringing a lawsuit against CL for unfair business practices by blocking me while allowing other realtors and PMs to post many times a day. They essentially have a monopoly on effective online classified.

Oh and you will LOVE this one - they blocked my legit rental ads - so just for the heck of it I posted a blatant (fake) prostitution ad in the personals section. (Very naughty girl seeking "generous men" for "good times." LOL) It posted immediately! (I even got a few replies before I pulled it a few minutes later. LOL)

I would really like to see their response when the media gets a hold of that - CL blocking legit businesses following the TOS, while STILL posting prostitution ads after promising numerous attorney generals they would stop.

Anybody want to join in a class action case? I see one coming.

I have posted a legit ad for Home Rental weekly for the past 5 weeks. Only one could be seen in the Listings even tho I got confirmation emails from Craigs List.

Sure has soured me on using Craigs List for anything. It seems they lie about what is really going on. I have contacted them and got nothing but an inane response that did nothing to explain the reasons or how to fix.

I know they are popular but you dont survive by creating big issues for users. I depended on them to get the word out and now I believe that whole site to be idiotic and BS.

Sorry to raise such an old thread, but Craigslist is still doing this. After reading all of the posts here and trying all the suggestions, I did some more research and found out how to get around Ghosting, even with the new security Craigslist has put in place, and thought I'd post it for posterity's sake:

http://www.fortyfivedesign.com/how-to-get-back-on-craigslist/

Turns out my IP address was listed as an open proxy! The Ebook has an IP tool in it that scans for the same things Craigslist does. I was banging my head against the wall for weeks trying to figure out the problem.
