Not sure where in NY (city or state) you are but if it was posted to the door, didn't you also send it certified and regular mail as required?

Let's be clear...we are talking about the court order to vacate.
This is not posted nor sent by me. This is handled by the court.
On the day of eviction, the Marshal comes out (I have to pay him to do it), bodily removes everyone from the unit, and he posts notices on all the doors that the place is under eviction, that any attempt to enter is criminal trespassing. Meanwhile, I am changing all the locks and making sure the water/heat/electric service etc is secure and all the windows are locked.
Only once has it gone that far. Once the order is handed down from the Judge...the tenants have the smarts to move real quick.

That's slightly different here in OK. I take the judgment to the Sheriff, he posts it on the tenant's door giving the tenant 48 hours to vacate. If tenant doesn't leave, Sheriff makes an appointment with me to appear at the property and either I pay Sheriff to physically remove tenant & his property, or I pay a private mover, or I can just change the locks and keep tenant's stuff in the unit until he bails it out for storage costs. What I cannot do is hold his stuff until he pays the judgment; I must release it when he pays the storage cost.

Yes, once the tenant has been removed. I have to arrange for tenant to get their stuff (under the watchful eye of the Marshal) or remove it myself (while making an inventory). No way I would let their stuff stay there preventing me from cleaning/repair and re-rent.
I only went thru this once. I put it in a u-store-it. Paid the first month. Then I was done. Sent a letter to the tenant where to find their stuff. If they didn't pay for storage or get their stuff..didn't matter, I was out of the loop.
