So, let me get this straight. You left your boyfriend and you guys were renting a house together

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING....find out first in a civilized manner what he is going to let you get from your things. If you left for abusive reasons then send a friend to get the items.

Was both your name and his name on the lease. Assuming there was a lease. If so he can sue you even if you aren't living there for half of the rent till the lease ends.

Secondly you admit to him paying for a sofa and loveseat with his money. However, you state that the reciept has your name on it. The fact of the matter is he payed for it, not you. So, it is his. I would say your out of luck. You can go before small claims court and lie to the court (which is morally wrong) and tell the court that you paid for it. Then and only then could you be sure to get the property back.

I would ensure that he cannot sue you for anything.
