Re: Garnishment served - how long does it take? by Katiekate (New York) on February 7, 2012 @16:57

I have gone through with this process 3 times. Here is my experience.

1) never heard another word. Changed jobs..and gone *poof*

2) didn't hear anything for 3 years. I figured she was gone...then..suddenly a check showed up for the full amount,
Turns out she quit her job, and then came back to work for them again after more than a year..they pickup the garnishment right where it left off!!

3) After hearing nothing for about a month..I called the marshal to find out...it happens that she already had 3 such garnishments on her wages...looks like a l-o-n-g time before I get to the top of that list.

In New York...it stays until it is satisfied.
