If a garnishment is in progress there has already been a successful legal action against. The type of living arrangement you have engaged in is complicated, problemic and for sure more expensive.

You are the the being sued because they found you. If they can find your girlfriend, they'll sue her too.

The words "jointly and severally responsible" on the lease, that means one or both can held responsible.
