A tenant's rights lawyer is giving you bad advice. Is he going to find you alternative housing when the landlord decides he can not afford to rent to you anymore?

No, but the landlord might learn it's a very costly mistake to retaliate against a tenant that exercised their rights under the law.

    It sounds like landlord is not retaliating, he is following the lease, which clearly states this is the tenant's responsibillity.
