You should never give a key to the hired help. What could happen when you want to get rid of him? All kinds of things.

Same thing that happens when a tenant moves...I change out the locks and re-key the old ones. This is why only I have the master...everything else can be changed quickly enough.

Unfortunately, the gardener has not posted a deposit and signed a lease. Most haven't even been shaken down for a green card. Who even knows what the gardeners real name is or where he lives? Yet, we want him to have a key.

to the garden? sure.
None of my places even have a locked garden...so what is the difference...walk in without a key because there isn't a gate and lock...or walk in with a key because of the gate with lock. The key wouldn't open anything except the garden gate. If I didn't want him to have access to the garden..why would I hire a gardener?
Frankly, I don't understand why the garden gate is locked at all.
