30 days notice?
by Duane (CA)

I am renting a room from an owner of a condo in Foster City CA...there is no lease and I pay once a month...he is looking to lease the 2 bedroom condo on a 1 year lease because of wanting to move and rent closer to work(I cannot afford to rent it)...he is still looking while I am renting...I understand that if I pay rent once a month I am suppose to give 30 days notice if I leave...can he give me short notice or no notice to move out or does he have to give me 30 days notice...I just don’t want to be caught trying to find a place to live if he gives me a few days notice...please let me know.. Thank you,

You are in San Mateo County. The Landlord must give you written full 30 day notice to vacate. Link below are your rights in California. http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook/appendix3.shtml
