This is a room in a condo and the LL is probably jewish, kosher and/or a tea-totaler. Remember the adage, "my house, my rules." If tenant took umbrage with the established house rules, he should not have rented. If the rules are promulgated after his tenancy and there is no written agreement that he would abide by rules as they are promulgated, tenant is free to ignore the rules, but when you live with the LL, it's probably not going to make for a comfortable environment.
