The Department of Justice amended the ADA definition of 'Service Animals' on February 17th 2011. ADA guidelines do not affect FHA/HUD guidelines as to what is required to be a 'Service Animal'. Most of what's in the article has been changed with the DOJ's new amendment. ADA applies only to areas open to the public. FHA/HUD guidelines applies to the rental. These are two separate guidelines that apply in different areas/situations.

    ADA is service animals, FHA is companion animals. Service animals are trained, companion animals are not. Basically the FHA is circumventing a LLs right to refuse pets. I'm fine with trained service animals, but untrained companion pets because you get lonely is lame...
