Is the estimate for the replacement of the doors AND frame or just the doors? The door frame should still be sound and not need replacement- all that you need replaced are the door slabs IMO. Try another contractor.

The replacement would be for a pre hung door which includes the frame. According to my contractor the French doors on the market today will not fit the old frame. A pre hung door is cheaper than a custom door.

You are right. I will get another estimate. However, I use this contractor often. He has never steered me wrong. He has rentals too. He builds things to last.
