"Jake is against ALL AND EVERY ALIEN coming in our land of freedom?"

I keep telling you I have been married to an alien since 1995. My in-laws are here visiting now. They come every year for 6 months to keep their green card good. I participated in the resettlement of many Vietnamese refugees from 1975 to 1995 who were so ready to come here to the "land not all milk and honey." I housed foreign students, refugees and paid college tuition for some. I do not care how many aliens come here. I just want them to use the front door. But you go ahead and sing your song of discrimination. We have all heard it so many times that we know it by heart.

Jake, why do you say over and over again that the tenants of Angi does not have an accurate passport ? Did Angi said a word about it ? no, I cannot find a word from her about the passport issue.

The lady married with an American citizen HAS a passport, because, as you said : nobody "alien" can be married without a passport. Simple and clear.

Now, I agreed with you about ILLEGAL aliens, because the line is difficult to see between legal and illegal : what can we do, AS LANDLORDS, on this issue?

Are we entitled to ask to see the passport ? It seems very rude and agressive, and I am wondering if this is not illegal.

Any advice?

As a LL, you have the right to see a tenant's or applicant's picture identification prior to lease signing or acceptance of an application. You need to know that they are who they say they are. The picture ID should be an official government issued ID, such as a passport, driver's license, military id, etc.

Thank you for your answer, I was not aware of this rights of ours, I appreciate it.

I am living in a difficult city, up-state NY, and we have a lot of issues with crime of all kind.

Also, Tenants Associations are extremely strong, here. It's great to know that it's legal for me to ask for an official government issued ID prior to signing or acceptance of an application.
