Did the old T voluntarily surrender possession of the rental> Did they return the keys to you? If they returned the keys and provided you no notice of their intent to return to get the appliances, a reasonable person would expect them to have been abandoned. As others have said, you will need to check you state's laws to make sure their is nothing requiring you told them for a period.
