Although in a perfect world 30 days notice is requested to be required however, it doesn't always happen. The 30 day notice clause has no bearing on the Security Deposit and the laws that encompass the Security Deposit and how it is handled. The State of California has a very specific guideline and Civil Code 1950.5 which must be followed to the letter of the law. http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook/sec-deposit.shtml
