The rent goes to who owns the property. Send him a letter instructing him rent is to be paid to the owner, and rent is not considered paid if it is handed to any so called property manager.
It does not matter that he wants to hand it to the exproperty manager.
He doesn't want to pay rent, and is trying to use the excuse that you have parted ways with your property manager to write the lease to his liking. Leases don't work that way.....they are created by the landlord, not by the tenant.
