Mom sold to my sister. I still pay rent - Illegal?

Question, my mom owned the house were we live I was paying rent to my mom for 20 years, she sold it to my sister in Dec, 2011 nobody told Me still righting checks to my mom for rent . is this illegal what they did . my mom does not own the property any more

It is not illegal; perhaps your sister is having your mom manage the property for her. Until your landlord (new (sis) or old (Mom) sends you a written notice to start paying someone else, you are correct in paying the person identified in your lease or rental agreement; if no written agreement, you pay the person you always have until informed otherwise. It is not up to the tenant to research the property ownership and identify the owner. The tenant has an agreement with someone (usually the owner) to rent the property. Any dispute about who was paid rent will be between your sis and your Mom.
