Money, lots of it, would make me change my mind and permit a tenant to stay, but that's just me and I'm not your LL. You probably couldn't afford the amount of money I'd raise your rent, so that's why you'd be getting a notice of termination of tenancy.

It's not personal. The LL doesn't owe you anything for being a good tenant. The property belongs to the LL.

"The LL doesn't owe you anything for being a good tenant. The property belongs to the LL."

This just does not sound like the right attitude. I would like to hear from all the other landlords who believe a good tenant has no value and deserves no consideration.

Bottom line, it is the LL's decision, no matter how good the tenant is.

I am talking about all tenants. Not just this one. This kind of attitude toward good tenants is just not good business.

If the LL wants to sell the home because they can't afford it or simply don't want to be a landlord anymore, it doesn't matter how good the tenant has been. The LL doesn't owe the tenant anything other than giving them extra time to find housing.

Would you keep a house you couldn't afford and didn't want anymore just because a tenant was good? Jake, you always write that the landlord is in control and they are a business not a charity. Good tenants deserve consideration and have value but not so much as to keep a property they simply want to be rid of for whatever reason.

The problem is not whether or not you've been a good tenant, but the business management she would like to pursue. Maybe even having you as a good tenant she can't afford the house. A lot of times, a house with a tenant is difficult to sell. Some investors won't even touch it unless it's empty. So you have to pull yourself out of it and just understand she's making a business decision that unfortunately results in her needing the house vacated, of which she has every right.
