Re: code enforcement by Anonymous on May 14, 2012 @11:02

Unregistered vehicle letters are both posted on the front door of the property and mailed to the owner of record, so the tenant is not without warning that they are about to have trouble. Personally I wouldn't bother with notifying tenant about violation, I would just bill them for the fine received, plus administrative costs. Too bad, so sad.

It happened once a year. The tenant always complied. It never cost the landlord money. Towing the car and costing the tenant $400 is just a really bad idea.

Jake, I cant believe you think this is a bad idea but yet you think nothing of telling a LL to lie about how a car got pushed to the curb. I think lieing is just never a good idea.

Monica's got a point. And when the city / county picks up the car that is parked in the "wrong" direction don't they charge the car owner to get it back? Just like on "Parking Wars".

When I posted that suggestion I thought the tenant had abandoned the car and was not coming back. About telling lies. Landlords lie all the time. IF you say you do not, you are lying.

no it wasn't a bad idea. their lease states they can't have these type vehicles on the property. I have told them countless times, including times when I haven't received a violation notice. They know, they just don't care and have continually hoped to get these cars fixed and off the property "before being caught". While it never cost me any money out of pocket, my expending time and effort to be sure they are following through for something that I (emphasis added on the I) am the one going to have criminal charges filed against sure is worth something to me.

If I am going to have criminal charges filed against me, I sure want to choose the crime myself and attempt to benefit from it !! (smiley face inserted here)

I need a criminal background check run on myself every two years. Why would I accept and plead guilty for something of someone else's doing? I agree, too bad, so sad. They don't need notice - they know they're in the wrong - but to condone the landlord getting fined? I don't get it.
