I hand a three day notice to the tenant, lay it on the ground in front of them if they won't take it, or tape it to the door of entry if they are not home.
This probably depends on what rules your state has stipulated. Some states do require you to mail a copy as well as post a copy on the door of entry or hand it to the tenant.
What state are you in? This makes a difference in getting the correct answer.....
