Tenants not Renters by Anonymous on May 26, 2012 @00:26

I wish landlords would show some respect to the people that are keeping you in business. Calling the tenant a "Renter" is so redneck and rude. In Texas if you are leasing a SFH you are a "Tenant" in a MF you are a "Resident". Show some respect to the person leasing your property and maybe they will take better care of it.

You got it. I will do anything to get them to take care of it. Tenants it is! (Problem is, they'll still mess it up. Guarantee you!)

What's your definition of a "Renter"? My definition is a person who pays rent. Why would that be derogatory, disrespectful or a perjorative? What can't is just be a factual description of the individual? Why waste time and energy on meaningless angling over labels? Who decided "Renter" was rude and redneck? Get over yourself.

This is a pointless post.

How is "Tenant" more respectful?

Tenant - A person who occupies land or property rented from a landlord

Renter - A person who rents an apartment, a car, or other object

Use the term 'Resident' that's what most professional landlords and management companies use.

"Calling the tenant a "Renter" is so redneck and rude."

We are doing our best to refrain from calling them homeless which is so much more accurate.
