Because of the never-ending maintenance fee and the added repair costs of collateral damage to adjoining units, the condos have a lower profit margin. And the headache of dealing with the HOA Board is non-stop. Typically, they are a bunch of folks who bear no authority elsewhere in their lives, and a typical condo owner has no grasp on operating a corporation, maintaining a campus, etc., yet that's exactly what they are in charge of! And if it is self-managed, just run away!
