Op again. We moved due to job change. Not near old house to inspect. I never imagined the family would neglect the basement so badly that the entire carpet could turn green from mold and black mold would begin climbing the walls. We're talking weeks of neglect, maybe longer.

Are we landlords or nannies? At what point is the tenant responsible for noticing a major failure and calling us to fix it?

I didn't replace the original 15 year old stove either. If it works, why throw it out?

I appreciate the serious responses.

You've received serious responses. It appears you just don't get it. Sorry.

You didn't inspect. Oopsie.

You cannot prove that the family neglected the basement. Oopsie.

You cannot prove that anyone sleeps down there. Oopsie.
