So here's the deal. I am very anti-war. I had shown my place to a gentleman and in our conversation found out he was a veteran. I kindly explained that I don't want to rent to him because he is pro war and my political views are very much against it. It is a very large conflict of interest to me.

Now all these news stations and even Yahoo have been blasting me! What did I do wrong? Can I sue the guy for playing my voicemail to him to the media? Can I sue him for taking this to the media? This is utterly ridiculous...

Serving in the military does not make one pro-war. It only means that the person is willing to serve his/her country. There are conscientious objectors that serve in the military, just not in combat roles. Nobody appreciates peace like a warrior.

Politics and political views are incendiary by their very nature. If you don't enjoy the freedoms given you by the veterans in this country, you are free to seek residence outside of the USA. A person can be a veteran and still NOT be pro-war. The person is doing their duty as a citizen. You opened your mouth and while veterans are not a protected group, you have invited in people who feel opposite of you. Sure, you can sue him if you want to be made a laughingstock and seen as a non-patriot scumbag who doesn't treasure the freedom as afforded by others sacrificing themselves --and often their very lives--to protect you and yours. If you're a troll, you're a very sick one.

If she is, then the story tells her what she did wrong -- "Though federal housing law does not prohibit discrimination against veterans, Massachusetts state law forbids owners from refusing to rent to someone because he or she is a veteran or member of the Armed Forces."

Seriously???? So because I don't want a murderer in my rental, I have to get insulted and drug through the mud for it? I thought that was a "free" country? I guess if I don't believe in the same "freedom" as the government does, I'm an outcast.

Why bring your drama here? The most constructive advice has already been given regarding the laws - and it seems you have broken a State Law in MA. Nobodies opinion means diddly at this point. Come back and tell us how it went in court. Really I think this is Sarah again....the pot stirring continues.

anyone for veterans and/or their families will probably never consider your place now. why - oh why - would anyone discriminae against veterans and put the recording on VM

I don't think he is wrong. You practiced discrimination just because he has different political beliefs. He was denied housing because you discriminated against him for something that had nothing to do with being a good renter. How would you feel if you found a place you liked, wanted to rent it, and the person said no for something arbitrary they didn't like or even YOUR political beliefs? Is that fair to deny someone housing just because you don't agree? Maybe practice something called tolerance. I rent to those who feel differently than me on many issues...it's not my business. That is their right. I am only concerned with who they are as renters.

You are likely an emotional woman. Renting is a business and ought to be considered as such. Are you against blacks, jews, muslims, those that walk or talk to slow?
