Armstrong linoleum is very good quality and the newer prints they are coming out with are very eye appealing,{they have some really good hardwood looking ones} but if you do not install them properly, they will rip, curl, bunch, etc. So, I would not recommend this for your idea. I am not an expert but I did live in a house where you could feel/hear some form of plastic under the carpet [I am assuming there was hardwood under the carpet} I don't know what they used, but perhaps you can use the idea of just placing the carpet over the floor without installing and lining that with some form of plastic?
