about 6 years is the expected life of the carpet. And you did not mention whether it is new.

Laminate! We have it in all my units plus a keep extras for repairs.We bought it in Russian store on sale (about90 cents with 25 years of guarantee).PERGO! 1.it is easy to keep clean 2 easy to install and repair 3 looks nice and cozy 4 no allergy problems. On second floor we just installed extra foam under to make extra sound barrier. We have it 8 years and still looks like new! Good luck!
