Internet service providers and tenants!

Please help me understand. I am so annoyed right now. Just got a new tenant in. Nice married couple. They knew another couple in the building. I am happy with them for the most part. I also have given them almost everything they asked for and more.
Here is my issue...internet service providers. My tenant does not want the internet already available in the unit. She wants Verizon. I thought it was no big deal until VERIZON will have to install a BOX in the unit and get this...if I don't want the box anymore and want it removed they WON"T remove it!!! (which I think is just horrendous). She needs my permission to have it installed.
So I find out about this Friday today is Saturday. She wants her internet now. I told her I am not comfortable getting involved with another company especially when the worker told us point blank they wont' remove this box if asked!!! I absolutely hate all the internet *rap left in apartments, I don't want more. I resent being pressured into this. She is making it my monkey when it should be hers.
My question to all of you is...is that "box" a big deal? Am I overreacting? What would you do?

We had a tenant install that same internet service. It also gave them TV and phone service as well with the box if they chose for that bundle. She asked permission and it was installed in our garage (2 family home). It's not the sleekest thing in the world. When the tenant left, the box remained. We unplugged it because the next tenant chose a different provider.
Fast forward a few years. A subsequent tenant decided to use the same service and Verizon used the same box they installed and just had to program it and hook up the tv and computer, etc.
Here's the thing. It's kind of a big box. Considerably bigger than your average modem or router u are usually used to seeing which is about the size of a paperback book. It's ugly as well because of it's size. So, you may wish to have them mount it in a closet or in a corner somewhere not readily visible. Incidently, they can put the box outside the apartment or even outside on the side of the building but that would require more wiring and probably more extensive alteration outside in order to mount it and protect if properly from the elements.
If you are worried about the equipment being removed after the tenant leaves, you can add an amendment to the lease that the tenant's would be responsible for the cost it would take to have the box removed and any resulting damage to the wall (holes, etc) repaired. Or, if you like the placement, you can leave it be for future tenants to use if they happen to chose Verizon. You would be able to advertised that it's wired for it.

In New York, the Verizon FiOS installations are professionally done with minimal complaints and no property damage. It may be time to consider a communications upgrade for the entire building complex, especially if the system (internet, television, telephone) can be installed at one location in the basement or exterior for distribution to each individual apartment unit.
On the other side, for sake of discussion, individual installations in each apartment unit can create a succession of unnecessary wear and tear with multiple installations and removals at move-out related to communication hardware specific to cable, internet, satellite, telephone, etc. -- not to mention hardware installed shelving, window treatments, etc. All totaled it can be unsightly if old hardware layered on top of new hardware is not removed. Then there is the next generation of communication hardware to consider …

Where are they saying they will install this box at?? My old tenants did this, without my permission, they installed it in the garage, the box is about 1ft square, and about 5-6" thick. At least the one they installed inside my garage. It doesn't really bother me, I don't care, it can be taken off. If it concerns you this much, would have them sign a paper saying they are responsible for removing the equipment and repairing any damages to the walls suffice? Maybe that will clear up the issue...

The box is for Verizon FiOS service. If my unit had the option I'd have it installed. Technologically savvy tenants will see it as a positive attribute. You can advertise the unit's readiness in this regard down the road.

Really? You are this worked up over a little box? You have something wrong with yourself...
First off, it is professionally installed. Maybe they have a contract with Verizon and can't get out of it without a break lease fee. Maybe it's cheaper. Whatever their reasoning is for wanting it, you should probably let them have it to avoid further issues.
Secondly, I know exactly what this box looks like. It's not big at all and is usually put in a spot you won't even see unless you go looking for it. A closet or space in the laundry room is the most common. It's a box. I fail to see why in the world you're getting so worked up over it.
Thirdly, who do you think posts reviews on yelp about Verizon? The complainers. That's who. For those 30 bad reviews, there are hundreds of thousands if not millions good reviews that have gone unstated. In my experience, anyone who complains about a company being shady is leaving a large part of the story out in their complaint. Half truths are rampant on those review boards. Look up your current ISP, I'm sure there are horrible reviews for them as well.
Fourthly, everyone who has said this can be a selling point is absolutely right. I moved into a place once in my post college days simply because DirecTv was already installed there. I even paid $25 more a month for the convenience. Illogical I know, but it can sway many renters.
Fifthly, get over yourself. You're acting this is a 4 foot by 6 foot by 3 foot box going in the kitchen taking up cabinet space. They could get it installed and you would have NO clue it was there. None. If I were them, I'd forge your signature and just go ahead and get it anyways. You'd never know.
