Re: Landlord violated my tenant rights by Gerry (Arizona) on June 17, 2012 @20:36

Landlord's name. I read in the landlord tenant code that he can't even turn off the power even if payment is late. The way I work my power is I never let the bill get over what 1 months bill would be in the summer time ($150.00), so I get a bill for $171.00 so I put down $100.00 to knock it out and curtail energy usage. Under Arizona law, may be for every state that if the power is in his name it is his responsibility to pay the bill and bill the tenant.

From what I found out, this was already a preplanned event and I found out from APS that he actually walked into their offices and told them that no one was living here and to disconnect the power. We later had it restored after we confronted APS about it and they called the landlord and told him what he did was against the law. We also found out that there was already service scheduled to be setup at this right after we left in another persons name.

What's pissing our landlord off is I got him to throw in so many extra's like the internet where he's only making at most $250.00 a month off the unit so he wants me out so he can charge more.

Contrary to your post above, this is probably what is pissing the LL off:

"The way I work my power is I never let the bill get over what 1 months bill would be in the summer time ($150.00), so I get a bill for $171.00 so I put down $100.00 to knock it out and curtail energy usage."

How about you pay the bill in full each and every month so the LL doesn't have to carry you in any amount for any length of time. As I always say, there's a reason people rent.
