T may have gotten cat with out permission

I recently went into the basement of my building and coming from the apartment above me I smelled cat pee. I think the tenant got a cat and I don't allow them because I can't clean the carpeting well enough after they leave. If I ask her if she has a cat she may deny it. Do I tell her I know she has a cat when I don't really. Do I assume she has a cat and send her a letter stating that I don't allow them? I'm so mad because the damage is already done... the place reeks! BUT, the humidity could have brought out a smell that was already there before she moved in last fall. What do I do?

Have you done a maintenance inspection. You may want to do one quarterly - when in the apartment you should look at pipes, chaulk around the tub to see if still good etc. but at the same time you should be able to tell if there is a cat by that inspection. You'll know more after the inspection.

I agree, just go make an inspection, and go to the place a little more often! The people that lived where I live at now, used to have a cat, that they never told the landlord about, the moved out, and abandoned the cat, and a neighbor adopted her because she had no choice. Well, the cat comes and PEES in front of my house, in my flower beds, on my welcome mat ... and of course I am having the hardest time getting rid of the smell. HATE it. Anyway, I guess my point is that MAYBE there's a stray cat around using the apartment door mat and surroundings for their potty area and your tenant might not know what to do about it... hopefully!!!

I am in the process of cleaning up cat hair from my last tenants cat.
Here are a few places to look that will have the tell tail signs of a cat. behind the toilet where the hose provides the water and on the front of the fridge where there is a vent. You will find plenty more cat hair but these two areas could be written off that you were check the toilet hose and the fridge vent. Have a wet wipe in your hand and wipe off the hair and there is your proof.
