The intent to vacate is used to provide the landlord notice that you wish to leave prior to the expiration date, not after. If you choose not to renew, or you both can't reach an agreement, then you would have to vacate when your lease expires. If you stay, you are holding over, then the landlord could start the eviction process to kick you out and take back possession. 735 ILCS 5/9-203 states that if you willfully holdover, you can be charged double the monthly rent, but that's if your LL knows about that.
I would try to work something out to stay the extra three months, otherwise you need to start looking for a new place to stay. Make an offer to pay a higher rent amount to see if they'll let you stay for three months or see if you can find a new tenant to move in after the three months. Either one of these might persuade the LL to let you stay. It would work for me, exspecially the later.
