Afaid by Scared in cleveland (Ohio) on July 1, 2012 @17:07

My apt was ransacked and my furniture was slashed within one month of moving in, now I have been robbed of my whole paycheck I just cashed. I think I am being watched. There is someone banging on my door and running all hours of the night. I am scared to death, I am a single mom with a 5 year old. My lease is up Aug 31 st. I want to move now. I am gonna beg them to let me out of my lease. Does anyone have advice. I dont get paid again for two weeks. I dont know what i am gonna do>

you think it's 'the building" doing all that ... or perhaps someone you know who will follow you to where you move. If someone is banging on your door in the middle of the night, have you tried 911? if someone broke into your apartment previously, why would you cash your paycheck for cash and have that money at home?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

This is a familiar path that tenants take that want to break a lease. It is likely your landlord has seen it before. You need to make a police report. It will not be worth it to break your lease.

Curious why you didn't want to move a year ago when the ransacking and furniture slashing first occurred?

BTW, did you call the police when someone stole money from you?

Your landlord cannot prevent or force you from moving if that is what you want to do. However, there may be a financial cost to you, probably July and August rent if LL doesn't find anyone sooner.

If you are scared to death for yourself and 5 year old, that cost would be worth it to you correct?

I did make a police report both times...i was told stand in line, your not the only one in that apt. building this has happened to. I cashed my check and was going to pay my rent. Also for the record my rent has been paid on time and in full everymonth, so I am not using this as an excuse. I've begged maintainence for MONTHS to fix my patio doors it does not slide closed to lock!! Our "KEY FABS" are broken both front and back door since november of last year. They are wide open for anyone to walk in. They offered me 100 bucks concession but refuse to let me out of my lease. I guess I am going to court with all my info, and see what happens. I've asked to work something out, they are just being jerks about this. I am hard-working single mom that get NO child support, I am NOT on welfare.. and I am going to school to become an R.N....with that said..the last thing I am doing is looking for an easy way out!!
