I am done with carpets. When I was at Lowes yesterday inquiring about carpet tiles ($3.50 a square foot), I was shocked how cheap the bottom end laminate flooring (looks like wood) was. Like 65 cents a square foot. You basically lay it on the existing floor, lock it together - simple, and put quarter round molding around the perimiter. Anything gets damaged, you can just open it up and replace the damaged boards.
