4) As to this couple living there, I don't see this as shady. It is a 2000 square foot house zoned commercial. LOts of people have salons in thier homes, or run their accounting firm or other things out of their homes. In fact, it is likely that people who want these things need to GET their house changed to commercial zoning to do these things and have customers come in.

OF course, it is an issue whether or not the town will let them live in a commercial place...
