OK--a yr. ago our insurance co. required us to place fire extinguishers in each unit of our 2 complexes (8 units and 11 units) as well as the laundry room. I have it in the lease that if the unit's fire extinguisher is not in unit after they move in there is charge to replace it...but the laundry room is another matter. That one disappeared sometime this yr. and we did not replace it. Reinspection just happened (surprise inspection) and we are cited for not having fire extinguisher in laundry room-baahhhhh!!! I just about know that if we replace it, it will likely disappear too. Any ideas on how to handle this? Thanks!

Place it in a case with a glass that must be broken to get access...wire it up to the house electric, and to a loud alarm..put a warning sticker on it that there is an alarm that will sound to warn of fire if the glass is broken.

How about you put a big ol chain on it? Attach it so it can still be used? I don't know how but I can bet my DH would be able to attach that thing with minimum expense.

How about for the next lease agreement, put it it that they have to inspect fullness, replace if empty, and leave it when vacating.

How about getting tenants that do not steal fire extinguishers?
