No good deed goes unpunished

2 years ago my sister moved into our home with her 2 children in order to save her from an abusive marriage. Fast forward to today, she is still not working full time, does not pay rent and to top it all off she recently moved in her boyfriend. I told her the boyfriend had to go - she declined - so I told her that they all needed to go. She called the police and told them she had a right to live there. According to the police - she is correct. I have now filed a 30 day notice to vacate. Is there Anything else I can do to get her (or at least the boyfriend) out of my home. It is very disconcerting having him there. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd let them know that if you have to evict then they will not be able to find a nice apartment ever again....

Put a hasp on the refrigerator, take the door off your tenant's bedroom, impose a no smoking rule, put a lock on the thermostat and turn it way up while installing a window unit on your bedroom, get rid of the microwave, turn the temperature down on the hot water. You get the idea.

Does your sister have a lease? Then give her one. Include house rules, and the higher amount of rent required to live there. Also ask for a deposit to cover any damages. Do a background check on both. If they do not sign the new lease terms, then move to evict them.

So sorry to hear this. I made the same mistake years back.
Mine left voluntarily (screaming and threatening all the way) so I can't help there, but I would like to suggest that you check your credit and then freeze it.
My parents who felt entitled to live with me forever also felt entitled to steal my identity and rack up a bunch of debt in my name. I wasn't emotionally ready to call the police on them during the short window of time when you can do that, so I got stuck with all the bills.
Check your credit and the deed to your house very carefully. These people clearly have no qualms about screwing you, and they're in a great position to pretend to *be* you.
More experienced landlords weigh in pls, but it's my understanding that without a written lease, tenant is assumed to be month to month, and you can send notice of nonrenewal with whatever notice your state requires. If they remain past nonrenewal, then I think you can have them evicted.
Good luck,
K

1) don't take legal advice from the police, they'll say anything just to keep from getting involved
2) speak to an attorney specializing in landlord-tenant law to see what you can do
3) you'll probably end up having to give her a 30 day termination notice, as if there is no lease she is probably by default on a month-to-month lease
4) you have now learned that women who need to be saved from an "abusive marriage" are the authors of their own misfortune, and keep writing the same book...
