direct tv installation

Crappy renters who were there less than a month got a satellite dish installed right on wall of the house using a big metal plate. Direct TV tells me they can't give me any information because I'm not "the customer" and that the customer needs to claim the damages. I am livid with Direct TV; told them I had that clause in the lease to get permission and the supervisor told me that I need to take the tenants to court then. So, Direct TV can send out a crappy installer who will let the "customer" tell them they can go ahead and damage the house and everyone has a good laugh over it. I'm taking this to the Attorney General's office!

Go ahead. Be livid. The tenants are the ones you should be livid with, not DirecTv. They were following orders. It's far too inefficient for them to ask for the deed or proof the customer is the rightful owner. Even then, the tenants could forge your signature easily or just say, "Yea, I got permission!"
What information do you want DirecTv to give you? Did they damage your house with the installation? Or did you damage it when you tried to take it down? Is it "damaged" because they drilled holes in to run the cable? Is it "damaged" because they drilled the metal plate on and now there are holes in the siding when you took it down? What exactly is the damage here?
If DirecTv damaged your house with a crappy install, then you haven't elevated it high enough at DirecTv. Just ask to speak to a manager and explain the situation.

I have had the same problem and I have called all the local numbers for the direct TV and Dish network and explained that i have a no drill order on all my properties. They assured me that the tenant has to have a signed waiver before they will attach a dish to my building. Then 2 weeks later i catch them at one of my properties and they are about to attach a dish right through my new roof. I have not been able to get this to stop. They say they use subcontractors and they are suppose to check with the tenant before they do anything but of course they don't, since that will not get them paid. And the tenants don't want to pay the additional cost to put it on a pole. So if you find a solution for this problem please let me know. It is driving me crazy and everyone is passing the buck. What state are you in? Maybe a class action suit needs to be brought against them, then something would happen.

Question for your stickler landlords that hate having a dish installed. Do you make this clear up front before the tenants sign the lease? Or do you hide it in your lease and inform the tenant of it when they ask after they've signed?
Look, a satellite dish is a very commonly requested device for a home these days. To deny it is pure idiocy. Some people need to cancel their contract with Dish or DirecTv and pay hundreds of dollars to do so. If you don't inform them up front of your idiotic rules, then they will be pissed at you when you tell them no, because it is unreasonable. If you tell them before they sign, they'll go somewhere else, because there are dozens of other rentals out there for your price that don't have that restriction and won't cost them the hundreds of dollars in a cancellation fee.
I'm betting anyone who still has this rule is over 60 years old or just an overall cranky person.
