Go ahead. Be livid. The tenants are the ones you should be livid with, not DirecTv. They were following orders. It's far too inefficient for them to ask for the deed or proof the customer is the rightful owner. Even then, the tenants could forge your signature easily or just say, "Yea, I got permission!"
What information do you want DirecTv to give you? Did they damage your house with the installation? Or did you damage it when you tried to take it down? Is it "damaged" because they drilled holes in to run the cable? Is it "damaged" because they drilled the metal plate on and now there are holes in the siding when you took it down? What exactly is the damage here?
If DirecTv damaged your house with a crappy install, then you haven't elevated it high enough at DirecTv. Just ask to speak to a manager and explain the situation.

I haven't touched it, why would I damage my own property? They installed it using a metal plate on the bedroom wall about eye level. I have elevated it as far as DirectTv would allow; they will not give me any information because I'm not the customer. Of course I'm livid with the tenants, but they are deadbeats and DirecttV is a legitimate company who would not budge and wouldn't even entertain my request for a copy of the paperwork that someone signed. They installed it wrong, but they told me the tenants need to call them to move the equipment because they are the customers.

You've elevated it as far as you can? Obviously not. You must not be very persuasive. I wanted one of my dishes moved from a previous tenant and had someone out the next day. How? Just told them the new tenants were going to hook it up and I wanted it moved before they got there. Total lie, but they saw $ signs of a new tenant to sign up. They had me fax over proof of ownership and they were out less than 24 hours later. Just have to know the way to their hearts, sweetpea.
