His 20-year old stove is 10 years younger than most of those in my 1980's condos. I've had good experiences with repainting with high-gloss high-heat black spray and have even done my own stove and refer back when black was considered new and top of the line...gee, that was about 20 years ago & it's still holding up great, with just a little wear showing now. Maybe I'll replace it with a great Craigslist bargain. Bought a brand-new gas oven last year on Craigslist from someone switching to electric -- was half the shelf price and had never been used. Guess it all boils down to what can your rental market bear, how much $$ do you want to put into appliances as trends cycle up and down, and can you recoup the cost over and above your current rent.
