  • What is the likelihood of the corporate attorneys making the security deposit issue a priority?
  • What is the likelihood the small claims court would have an available hearing date open within two weeks?
  • What is the likelihood this post is fraudulent, like the OP himself?

  • * Thinking the poster LL Slayer (name says it all) is not telling the truth ... TROLL Alert!

The landlord punitive damages in the amount of twice (2x) security deposit plus suspension of renter’s license for two (2) years must be only given to TROLLS because …

According to the State of Minnesota Security Deposit Statutes:
Subd. 7.Bad faith retention. The bad faith retention by a landlord of a deposit, the interest thereon, or any portion thereof, in violation of this section shall subject the landlord to punitive damages not to exceed $500 for each deposit in addition to the damages provided in subdivision 4. If the landlord has failed to comply with the provisions of subdivision 3 or 5, retention of a deposit shall be presumed to be in bad faith unless the landlord returns the deposit within two weeks after the commencement of any action for the recovery of the deposit.

Slim and none. Eviction cases are 10 days out, but small claims cases are 6+ weeks out. Often 3+ months out. The claim/summons must be delivered to the defendent 10 days prior to the Court date. So it is illegal to have a court date within 10 days of filing it.

If MN Landlord slayer cannot come up with a case number, he is probably smoking crack.
