Getting started with an eviction in NJ

I have had an otherwise great tenant who is 3 days behind on her rent. I would not otherwise come so quickly to this point but she does not answer her phone or respond to texts/emails for this month. This has never happened before.
So I wanted to get started with the eviction process incase I am SOL. I have 2 questions: 1) I read in various places that a notice to quit is not required in NJ for the non-payment of rent. Is there anything I am missing here? Should I just go down to my local courthouse and file for eviction? 2) How long should I wait before I do this?

Honestly, I'd wait a couple more days and try one more friendly phone call. Don't know about NJ but don't want to engenderr bad blood if you can help it.

For non-payment of rent, you may file for eviction right away without notices.
Since you comment that she has been a great tenant, you may wish to give the pay or quit notice and wait the 3 days before filing to give her "official" notice. If you go this route, and she pays, make sure you also give her a notice of late payment or a cure or quit notice. It will protect you in case she continues to pay late and you file for eviction based on habitual late payment.

You could be evicting someone in a hospital bed somewhere. Good work, you heartless bastard. Have you gone by the unit to see if she's around? If this is the first issue, I definitely would post something on the door and confirm the tenant is still living there. You'll feel pretty horrible if it turns out the tenant has a legit medical emergency this one time and you've already filed to evict her.

I also would wait a little bit. While "check's in the mail" is a classic joke, sometimes things do get lost or held up somewhere. Maybe she's on vacation and isn't receiving your messages and she thinks the check arrived on time. I cannot imagine not waiting a sweek or 10 days for a "great tenant" to surface.

Thanks for all the advice guys including you, Franklin.
I will actually drive by and knock on the door and atleast leave her a note asking about the rent.
Probably mid next week is when I'll file the summons.
