I live in the property that i intend to rent (seperate unit). Should i put my home in a trust? Will it protect me?

Just get a good insurance policy. It's cheaper, easier, and you get to write everything off.

protect you from what? what type of trust? what do you want the trust to do for you? do you have a spouse and children? do you have other assets and debts? how's the rest of your estate planning coming along?
REALLY ... you need legal, insurance and accounting advice specifically for your situation from professionals for something this important ... a generic question asked like this, as you can see, doesn't produce any results
