I live in a condo that is a weekly rental. It is fully furnished and includes electricity, water, local phone and basic cable. I have lived in this condo paying weekly for 9mths. I received a notice that my rent is going up due to an increace in "my units" water usage. Is this legal? How can they raise the rent for extra water usage when the water is included in my rent? How can they raise MY rent and not everyone elses. Is this not like staying in a hotel and the owner telling you you have to pay more because you may take a few more baths than the next room? Can anyone help?

Yes.
How? Because it is separately metered and you are using an excessive amount.

If you don't like it you are free to move.

If you have no lease that has a specified term and rental amount then your rent can be increased. If you are using to much water you are probably using excessive amounts of Electric. So pay up or move.

Think of it this way. You rent your car to someone week to week but you, the owner, have to pay for and fill the gas tank. When you rented the car initially the person worked a few miles away. Now, months later they have a new job that is 50 miles away. Do you think the price should stay the same?

How much is the increase in rent? Do you have others living with you since you moved in and is the toilet leaking past the flap valve?
