? Using AHRN and Militarybyowner to advertise
by San Diego, CA

We will have a bedroom available for rent in our 3 bdrm, 1 ba SFH. We do not live there, but we live close by in the same city.
The other 2 bedrooms are rented, but the "mature" long-term tenants (unrelated, just roommates, not really friends) do not have the right to sublet.
Would advertising with AHRN and with militarybyowner be a good thing or are those sites only for military families rather than singles? I know I cannot discriminate based on family status, but before I sign up for these services, I was just wondering...
Also, when I advertise, am I legally okay to say current roommates are single, straight men in their 50s ???
I also thought of advertising at the local university--but do I look for a website or newspaper to advertise for this, or is there a (for example) grad school bulletin board or something? One of my friends had good luck renting her condo bedrooms to foreign students, but then again, my friend also lived in the house and actually worked for that department at the university. What do you think? I am open to suggestions and ideas and help please.

We have used both sources to find tenants, including single military folks (both male and female).
In my neck of the woods, many landlords/property managers use AHRN because it's free; fewer use MBO although the cost for the cheapest ad is quite reasonable.
I'd avoid describing your current tenants in your ad.

I have two rentals and advertised both on AHRN and MBO. I received a fair amount of interest, but no viewers. I ended up renting to non-military. It's a shame because I'm a 30 year retired vetern and was hoping to help out my fellow service members.

Only if you are insane. This is not the 1950s.
And for advertising, you need to be on craigslist.
